Coburg international samba festival 2013

We are very proud to be part of the Coburg Samba festival in Germany, the largest samba event in Europe and 2nd only to the Rio carnival in Brazil.

200,000 people
3,000 percussionists
100 bands from all over Europe
3 amazing days
1 crazy weekend

This year we opened the festival on Friday with a blast through of our stage set on the main stage in Schlossplatz, followed by sets in Hoffgarden, Albertsplatz, And Josia's garten. And of course not forgetting the huge spectacle that is the parade on the Sunday, where all the bands get to follow each other through the streets of Coburg in a procession that lasts for 2-3 hours. Costumes, dancing, capoeira, flags and unrelenting Samba music combine to make this an unmissable part of the weekend.

Great to see Olodum on stage, all the way from Brazil with a stunning performance, very inspirational to see one of the original Samba reggae groups perform live. First we had drum lifting now we have drum throwing !  Watch out for a few bands attempting that at next year's event. Great also to see so many other bands, all of incredibly high standards, the level of playing is definitely getting higher and higher every year.

This was our 2nd international event this year, having already played in Ireland, with one more international event planned for the beginning of September where we will be attending the Nijmegen Salsa and Samba festival.
