Gravesend Christmas Light switch on

Gravesend’s extensive Christmas celebrations began on Friday afternoon with the first of the 12 Days of Christmas events – the Gravesend’s Christmas lights switch and mass lantern parade.
Hundreds of children from 11 schools followed a giant snowbird (representing the partridge in the carol) as the town’s lights were switched on in stages by the Mayor of Gravesham Cllr Derek Sales and the Mayoress Mrs Pam Sales. They were assisted by cast members from The Woodville panto, Beauty and the Beast, Father Christmas and some of his elves.
Bloco Fogo were part of the parade which started at 4.30pm at the St George’s Centre, parading through the shopping centre onto New Road and into Windmill Street with a countdown (from 12 of course) at each stage of the lights.

Gravesend Paralympic Lantern Parade

A perfect early September evening, 2 days before the official closing of the Paralympic games and several hundred children gathered in Gravesend to parade specially built lanterns though the park and onto the promenade. Supported by Same Sky, we played on the bandstand and followed the procession. and were joined by Steel Ambition and the 4x4 Bhangra group.

After all the children were presented with their medals, the parade ended at the Same Sky Dome for a dramatic interactive experience highlighting Man's impact on the Earth and how we should protect the environment.
