Tunbridge Wells Lantern Parade 2015

Bloco Fogo's HUGE band of 40 drummers led the parade of hundreds of children and their lanterns through the streets of Tunbridge Wells for the annual Winter Lantern Parade.
Their seemed to be more lanterns than ever before this year having been created during several workshops throughout January. With a general theme of water this year there were fishes galore, including a special Bloco Fogo Fish !

Special thanks go out to Town & Country housing and CREATE ( Camden Road Education, Arts & Theatre Enterprise) for supporting the event and helping to make it possible, along with all those that donated to help the group make their funding target of £1,000.

Dartford Festival of LIght

Playing for Cohesion Plus in conjunction with SameSky, we joined in the Festival of Light Lantern parade through the streets of Dartford, along with several hundred local school children. Then afterwards for a quick blast on the bandstand in Central Park.

Great fun playing over the bridge from the station and through the shopping centre where the noise intensified massively.

Tunbridge Wells Winter Lantern Parade

Bloco Fogo led the way for the annual Tunbridge Wells Lantern parade through the towns streets. Hundreds of children with their hand made lanterns followed the band as it made it's way from the towns museum to St Barnabas school, with thousands of local people lining the streets for this ever popular event to brighten up the winter nights. This years theme was Myths and Legends and saw some amazing lanterns shaped like Unicorns, Cyclops, Mermaids, fish, a Phoenix and a special lantern celebrating the 75th Anniversary year of The Assembly Hall Theatre.

With a strong band in place and our flag wavers in abundance adding to the spectacle, this was an amazing event. Let's hope we are back again next year

Coverage of the event in the Courier

Beginners Debut

After only a few months practice, our beginners had their first official gig in Tunbridge Wells, busking by the clock tower, to raise awareness for next weeks lantern Parade in the town. The sound was amazing, the atmosphere electric and the crowds very appreciative, even the sun came out !

Well done to everyone that came along, keep up the good work.

Wrotham Lantern Parade

Another Same Sky event with hundreds of local school children parading through the town with their Lanterns representing local fruit and produce.
In full lighting gear, we bought up the tail of the parade, setting off 2 car alarms along the way, so we must have been making a fair amount of noise!

It was great seeing the children's faces all lit up as we walked past them into the field for a quick play before the Morris Dancers and Bhangra 4x4 took their turns too.
