The Band

A samba drumming band is a musical ensemble known for its rhythmic and lively (and very loud!) performances inspired by Brazil's samba genre. Unlike traditional bands, samba drumming bands use percussion instruments such as surdo (bass) drums, snare drums, high-pitched drums, bells, and shakers to craft energetic rhythms. With choreography, vibrant costumes, and plenty of smiles, these bands bring the joyful spirit of Brazilian culture to life.
It translates to 'Band of Fire' in Portuguese, which is the official language spoken in Brazil!
Currently (as of 2024), we boast around 80 members (yes, a drumming army!). However, due to work and family commitments, having everyone together for gigs, depending on time and location, is virtually impossible. Typically, we'll have a dynamic ensemble of 20 to 40 players at any given gig.
Absolutely! We conduct beginner sessions, launching a new intake every January, complete with a taster session just before Christmas. However, act fast—our beginner sessions are highly sought after. Each booking varies, and although we can play for hours (after a hearty three Weetabix breakfast!), we usually suggest 20-30 minute sets, which our audiences find just about perfect. For carnival or bonfire night parades, performances can extend up to about an hour or more.
Anywhere, anytime, any place! We're fully mobile, catering to both indoor and outdoor venues. From football stadiums to weddings to the roof of a moving double-decker bus, we've done it all!

All year round, except for a well-deserved break between Christmas and New Year! Our rehearsals take place on Wednesday nights from 19:30 to 22:00 at Mascalls Academy, Kent TN12 6LT (UK).
It's our cake break tradition! During rehearsals, we take a break, and there's always some cake involved (gotta fuel up!). We've got some mean bakers in the crew, and if all else fails, we never say no to store-bought chocolate cornflakes, haha!
